James Patrick Casey, of Newtown Square died peacefully with his family on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Bryn Mawr Hospital. He was 79.

James was born on June 4, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA to James Patrick and Elizabeth Casey. He was the oldest of 5 children (sisters Mary, Betty & Clare and brother Hugh). He was raised in Upper Darby, PA and attended St. Laurence Catholic Elementary School and Monsignor Bonner High School where he was captain of the famed 1959 City of Philadelphia Championship Football team. This earned him a spot on the Monsignor Bonner Wall of Fame. He graduated from Bonner in 1960 and later earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1964 from the University of Pennsylvania where he also played football for the Quakers.

James is survived by his wife, Phyllis (nee Holtzman), of over 59 years, his 3 children - Kathleen Casey, Erin Kirk & Shawn Casey (and Jimmer Casey-deceased) and 6 grandchildren - Marley & Liam Kirk, Luigi & Hazel Giacomucci and Luke & Derek Casey.

Besides spending time with his family, James hobbies included coaching youth baseball, playing bridge, watching Philadelphia sports teams and attending his grandchildren's numerous sports, music and theater events. These events brought James his greatest joy and happiness as he rarely missed an event and loved seeing his grandchildren perform and mature into young adults.

James was a long time sales representative of wastewater equipment. He also was a long time member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Newtown Square where he served as a lector for 30+ years. In recent years, James served as a member of the Rotary Club of Newtown Square.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing, Saturday, November 27, 2021, 9:30 – 10:30 AM at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, followed by his Funeral Mass, 10:30 AM. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
