Rev. Clifford D. Payne, age 82, of Elwood, passed away following a courageous battle with COVID-19 on Friday, November 19, 2021, at Marion General Hospital. Cliff was born in Malden, MO on March 28, 1939, to the late Roy and Grace (Underwood) Payne.

Cliff proudly served his country in the US Army, 101st Air Born Division. He retired from City Machine of Muncie as a tool and die machinist. He was a member of the Frankton American Legion where he served as Past Commander. Cliff was very active in his community always helping people in need. He enjoyed preaching the gospel on Sunday's and loved spending time with his family.

Cliff is survived by three sons, Doyle Payne, Jeff Payne, and Rickie Payne all of Elwood; a daughter, Terrie Chitwood of Elwood; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Along with his parents, Cliff was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Payne; sister, Jewellene Munns; daughter, Sheila Zorne; and grandson, Joshua Payne.

Visitation will be Friday, November 26, 2021, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood chapel. Funeral service celebrating Cliff's life will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, November 27, 2021, at the Dunnichay Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Bigham officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the US Army and the Elwood VFW Honor Guard.
