He was a retired coal miner, and a member of Duvall's Chapel General Baptist Church. John was a hard worker. He enjoyed camping, loved his grandchildren, and enjoyed riding his golf cart around the neighborhood. He loved his church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland Thomas and Mareen Mercer; and brother Tommy Mercer.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Diana Faye Carver Mercer; sons Brian (Gail) Mercer and Brent (Audrey) Mercer; daughter Jerriann (Jeff) Young; grandchildren Caleb, April, Haley, Sidney, and Noah; and sisters Wilda McDonald, Linda Steele, Joan Bethel, and Frances Davis.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 27, 2021, at 11:00AM at Duvall's Chapel General Baptist Church in Greenville, with Bro. Gary Embry officiating. Burial in Nebo Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8PM at Duvall's Chapel General Baptist Church and Saturday after 9:00AM at the church. Tucker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
