James Kunch, 93, of Marshalltown, Iowa, died on Friday, November 19, 2021, at UnityPoint Health Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, surrounded by his family.

Services at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home.

James Leroy Kunch was born September 26, 1928, to parents William and Emma (Chaska) Kunch in Clutier, Iowa. He was one of nine children in his family.

James worked hard to support his family while working for Dunham Bush in Marshalltown prior to his retirement. He was a longtime faithful member of St. Francis of Assisi Parrish Saint Henry Church. On November 16, 2007, James married Marlene Andrews at Saint Henry Catholic Church.

James enjoyed gardening and took pride in growing his German tomatoes and keeping some of their seeds for next year's harvest. He loved vacationing at their cabin in Waterville, Minnesota, where he fished and spent time with good friends. He loved tinkering in his garage at home, building things and working on various projects. He was never one to turn down a food offering and always enjoyed a good meal with family and friends. He liked playing solitaire to pass the time. He also loved his fur baby, Jazz, their Miniature Schnauzer.

Those left to remember his memory are his wife, Marlene Kunch; her daughter, Bev (Mike Kaider) Andrews; his sister Anna Smith; his grandcritters, dogs, cats, horses, mules, donkey, goats, chickens, and guineas; and numerous extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Helen of 48 years prior to her passing in 2004; his siblings, Louis Kunch, Bill Kunch, Cyril Kunch, Lucille Plum, Mary Kerkman, Harry Kunch, and Albie Kunch; and Brandy his Pomeranian; and two cats Sunshine and Tinkers.
