John Robert Cody
June 16, 1929 ~ November 21, 2021 (age 92)

Mr. John Robert Cody, 92, a resident of Pine Meadow Drive, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at his home.

He was born on June 16, 1929 in Davidson County, NC to Paul Silas Cody and Martishie Pierce Cody. He retired from Henredon Furniture after previously working at Erwin Lambeth as an experienced cloth cutter. He was a faithful member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church. He was a blessing to all who knew him and was adored by his family. He enjoyed a 30 year retirement of woodcarving, gardening, watching hummingbirds, and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Russell Cody on March 6, 2005, whom he married on November 7, 1952.

On August 1, 2008, he married Katherine Pritchett Cavin, who survives of the home; also surviving is his daughter, Vicki Veazey and husband Dan of Hendersonville, NC: son, Phillip Cody and wife Jen of Lexington; step-daughters, Donna Dennis and husband Ray and Robin Carico, all of Sophia; brother, Albert Cody and wife Lorece of Lexington; sisters, Pauline Thompson of Kernersville, Minnie Smith of Archdale, and Nancy Blanton of Kernersville; grandchildren, John Veazey and wife Lindsay, Joanna Brooks and husband Zac, and Drew Cody and wife McKenzie; great-grandchildren, Emmarie, Robert, Xander, Sibley, Holloway, and Ruth; numerous nieces and nephews; and loving caregiver, Candy (Bluebird) Bailey.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Brad Treece and Rev. Tony Moore officiating. The family will gather to receive friends following the graveside service in the fellowship hall at Piney Grove UMC, 7564 Jackson Creek Rd. Denton, NC from 2:30 – 4:30 PM, at which masks are requested. Mr. Cody will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the cemetery 30 minutes prior to the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
