Born Jan. 21, 1930, at Zaneis to S.A. and Mollie Lillian Taliaferro Blankenship, he died Dec. 13, 2007, at an Ardmore hospital. He married Martha Alice Washington April 28, 1951, at Gainesville, Texas. She preceded him in death Oct. 29, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis Ray Blankenship on Sept. 26, 1993; granddaughter, Karen L. Blankenship on May 18, 1991; and a brother, Earl Wayne Blankenship on June 24, 2001.
Mr. Blankenship was raised at Rubottom and then made his home at Ardmore for 28 years before returning to Rubottom to make his home in 1981. He was employed as a terminal operator at a gas and asphalt dock at the refinery in Ardmore, where he retired.
Mr. Blankenship attended grade school at Keltner and graduated from Courtney High School. He was a good pitcher on the baseball team.
As a young man he liked to farm, tend his cattle and take care of his tractor. He was also an active Mason. His hobbies included camping at the lake and fishing. Mr. Blankenship especially enjoyed the time he could spend with his children and grandchildren.
He was a member of Rubottom Baptist Church.
Survivors include his companion and best friend, Jeanie Heath; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Julie Blankenship, Piedmont; daughter-in-law, Sandy Blankenship, Wilson; brother and sister-in-law, Sam A. and Ann Blankenship, Ardmore; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Patsy Thompson, Rubottom, Shirley and Toney Hearell, Rubottom, and Peggy and Charles McConnell, Duncan; three grandsons, Tommy Blankenship and his wife, Susan, Lone Grove, Zachary Blankenship, Piedmont, and Aaron Blankenship, Piedmont; and two great-grandchildren, Kelsi Christianna Blankenship and Boston Ray Blankenship.
Bearers were Tommy Blankenship, Rodney Blankenship, Zach Blankenship, Aaron Blankenship, Warren Blankenship and Steven McConnell. Honorary bearers were Larry Gilcrease and Tommy Harris.
