Betty Jo Young, 81, succumbed to her year-long battle with cancer on Saturday, November 20, 2021. She was at home surrounded by her family. Betty retired from Walmart in Decatur, Texas, on December 31, 2020, and became ill in January of 2021.

On September 26, 1940, Betty was born in Stringtown, OK, to parents, John Clarence and Mary Bell (Boswell) Wallace. She married, had three children, and later this union ended. Betty loved and supported her children and rarely missed anything in which they were involved. She did the same for her grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Nannie." She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and attending their events.

Betty had a servant's heart. She loved people. She loved being around them, she loved helping them, and she loved doing things for them. She also loved to bake cakes. She would bake birthday and holiday cakes and take them to people for their enjoyment. In addition, Betty was an excellent seamstress. She sewed and did clothing alterations for the public as well as wedding gowns.

In addition to all of these things, Betty had a passion for flower gardening. Her flowerbeds and yard were impeccable, and she grew plants and had flowers inside as well. She hung hummingbird and wild bird feeders and would sit and watch the birds come and play. Betty enjoyed life and made every moment count.

Her life will be remembered and cherished by her children, Debra Kay Smith of Decatur and Billy J. Young and wife Carla of Alvord; one sister Glennda Eckelbarger and one brother. She is also survived by three grandchildren, J. T. Smith of Decatur, Jeremy Young and wife Jennifer of Abilene, Ben Young and wife Amanda of Sevierville, TN, and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials go in the name of Betty's son, Johnny F. Young, Jr., to the American Kidney Foundation www.kidneyfund.org.
