Jerry V. Powers, age 77, of Evansville, IN, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, November 21, 2021, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital, surrounded by his family. Jerry was born July 1, 1944, in Evansville, IN, to Carl J. and Rosemary (Vernon) Powers.

He graduated from North High School in 1962, and he was a Veteran in the United States Navy, graduating from Great Lakes Hospital Corps School. He served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam as a hospital corpsman (medic) aboard the USS Princeton. After returning home Jerry received his undergraduate degree in business management from USI/ISUE in Evansville and his post graduate degree in Health Care Administration from Indiana University.

Jerry was a long-time member of Oak Hill Church of Christ. Jerry had a long career as health care administrator working in many skilled nursing facilities in the area as well as serving as a consultant throughout the state of Indiana prior to his retirement. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was an avid Elvis fan and always enjoyed singing and listening to music.

Jerry was most proud of receiving deficiency free surveys from the Indiana State Board of Health at many of his facilities. He often spoke of the importance of quality care of the residents, treating them with utmost compassion and respect.

He loved hunting and gardening. He spoke often of hunting with his beagles, his father and brother alongside in his early years. Jerry loved working outside, always tended to his garden and lawn. In his later years, he often enjoyed and loved caring for his house cat, Stubby.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Barbara (Balbach) Powers; son, Benjamin V. Powers of Evansville; daughter, Tonya M. Powers Yu (Dr. Conrad Yu) of Las Vegas, NV; his deeply cherished grandson, Gabriel Orion Powers Yu; sister-in-law, Peggy Wade Powers; brother-in-law, David Balbach (Diane); brother-in-law, Ronald Balbach (Mary); brother-in-law, John Balbach (Marian); sister-in-law, Karen Gross (Monty); sister-in-law, Jennifer Morales (Reynaldo); brother-in-law, Richard Balbach (Kim); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Rosemary Powers; brother, Carl "Sonny" Powers; sister, June Ubelhor; and brother-in-law, Robert Ubelhor.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Jon Riley officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery where full military rites will be rendered by the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans. Friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday, November 26, 2021,
