Elmer L. Smith, 96, formerly of rural Easton, passed away at 3:45 am on November 20, 2021.
He was born May 22, 1925, in Menard County, Illinois, to Emery and Ethel Smith.
He was preceded in death by nine siblings.
He married Shirley Howe October 17, 1945 in Havana, Illinois. She survives. They were the proud parents of three children. Their only son, Eldon and beloved daughter-in-law, Rita are both deceased as well as Eldon and Rita's precious daughter, Cheryl.
Surviving are their daughters, Carol (Gary) Wright and Jane Skillman and grandchildren Angie (Jamey) Harp, Jarod (Tracy) Wright, Steve (Monica) Wright and Jennifer (JR) Bailey. They were also proud to have 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren.
Most of his adult life was spent farming and raising hogs. Many of those years were spent working alongside his son. After retirement, he turned his attention to woodworking. He became known for his generosity in gifting many friends and family with his numerous creations. He was a member of the Easton United Methodist Church. He served on the Crane Creek Township Board and was also on the Walkers Grove Cemetery Board for many years.
Cremation will be accorded with a private burial attended by above mentioned family at a later date.
