Politician. He became the first openly transgendered person to hold public office in the U.S., becoming the mayor of Silverton, Oregon in 2008. His election garnered international media attention from outlets such as Good Morning America and People Magazine. His run prompted a musical called "Stu for Silverton," which was performed in Seattle and Minneapolis. He was not concerned about pronoun usage, accepting either he/him or she/her. Ha was a self-described fiscal conservative and social liberal, who served as city councilor until January 2009. He passed away from prostate cancer on November 17th, 2021.
