Matthew Joseph "Matt" Smith, 50, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana. He was born on February 18, 1971 in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of the late Joe Max Smith and Marsha Miller-Smith. He loved the Miller Longview Farm, where he spent his childhood with his Granddad Miller. It was there that he spent a lot of his time putting on music fests, camping, and having get-togethers with family and friends. Matt graduated from Scottsburg High School in the class 1989. He attended Indiana University, but graduated from State College as a journeyman lineman.
He was the lead journeyman lineman at ElectriCom, LLC in Paoli, Indiana. He attended the First Baptist Church with his family and was the acting president of Beech Grove Cemetery Association in Washington County, Indiana. His talents and abilities included being a musician and drummer. Matt was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. He also enjoyed golfing, dirt bike riding, boating, and water skiing. In addition to his late father, Matt is preceded in death by his grandparents, Gordon and Jane Miller, Bill and Millie Gibson, and Jess Smith, Sr.
Survivors include mother, Marsha Miller-Smith of Scottsburg; two uncles, Jess Smith of Scottsburg, and Ed (Nancy) Miller; cousins, Ryan, Evan, and Lucas all of Washington, Indiana; and special friend, Pam Fewell MacIntosh of Scottsburg. Funeral Service 4:00 pm Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with Mayor Terry Amick & Shepherd Bill Talbott officiating. Visitation 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm Saturday at Collins Funeral Home. Mausoleum Encryptment at Beech Grove Cemetery in Washington County, Indiana at a later date.
