Hicks, Shirley Eugene, Sr., went to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 17, 2021. Born in Albemarle Co. to the late Harper E. and Julia Mae Hicks, he had fond memories of growing up on Royal Orchard. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Randolph and Shields Hicks; and sister, Mildred Bowles. Shirley is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Virginia Hicks; son, Shirley Eugene Hicks, Jr.; two special grandchildren Akshita and Reyan Sharma; brother, Mack Hicks; special aunt, Alice Hopkins; his cat "KittyBoo", as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was a Marine Corps veteran and attended VPI. Mr. Hicks retired from AT&T and was a member of Laurel Hill UMC. A very crafty man with his hands, he was a talented wood worker, gardener, and lawn mower repair man. He will be missed by all. The family would like to extend a special thank you to their "Special Angels" and the staff of VCU Health Systems. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., with services beginning at 3 p.m., Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at Laurel Hill UMC, 1919 New Market Rd. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
