Dick was born on July 22, 1932 to Marion Glenn and Dorothy (Blahauvitz) Patterson in Lake City, IA, Along with siblings Joan and Ron, the family eventually settled in Henriette, MN. His parents divorced and Dick's mother later met and married Art Schloesser. To this union four more children were included; Harold, Helen, Ray and Jerry. Eventually four more children were added to the family tree; Donald, Judy and Sally Schloesser and Thomas Patterson.

Dick grew up in Henriette and graduated from Pine City High School in 1951. He joined the US Army in 1953 and served his country in Korea. Following his honorable discharge he returned home and met his future wife, Theodora Wright, while roller skating at the Fish Lake Pavilion. They were married for 66 years and blessed with two sons, Mike and Tom.

Dick was very knowledgeable in anything mechanical, was self-employed and lived in the twin cities area. He very was involved with Cub Scouts when his boys were young. The family spent many weekends at Knife Lake where they enjoyed snowmobiling with friends. After the kids graduated from high school, Dick and Teddy moved to Mora where he became involved and helped to start up the ECRiders snowmobile club, worked on the Vasaloppet ski race and worked on the rescue team with his son Mike for ten years. He was always there with a helping hand for anyone who needed it.

He gave his heart to the Lord and became involved with many church activities. He was always on the front line, especially behind the kitchen counter serving up treats. A few years ago he became a part of the prayer team for Christian Cross Ministry with Pastors Bill and Carol Mantel, who go around planting crosses in the US and foreign countries, saying many prayers in the name of Jesus. His greatest delight was the planting of the cross with the American Flag at his son, Mike's home.

When the grandkids came along they were the light of his life. He was always there for his family and was greatly loved.

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him." Jeremiah 17:7.

Dick was preceded in death by his son Tom; parents; brothers, Harold (Elsie) Schloesser, Ray Schloesser, Donald Schloesser and Ron Patterson; sisters, Helen (Fred) Lemke and Joan (Jim) Ammerman.

He is survived by his wife Theodora "Teddy"; son Mike (Roxanne) Patterson; daughter-in-law Julie Patterson; brothers Thomas Patterson and Jerry (Jane) Schloesser; sisters Judy (David) Ammerman and Sally (Roger) Hanson; sisters-in-law Bev Schloesser and Joanie Patterson; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; plus other relatives and many wonderful friends.
