Ida Mae Adams
Born: June 9, 1947
Died: November 16, 2021
Ida Mae Adams, nee Walkington, beloved wife, mother, grandma and sister of Wonder Lake, IL, passed away, with her family by her side, on Tuesday, November 16th. She was born on June 9th, 1947 to Joseph (Paul) & Althea (Benoy) Walkington.
Ida Mae grew up in Ringwood, IL and later moved to Wonder Lake after marrying at Christ the King Church in Wonde rLake, April 19, 1969.
A 1965 graduate of McHenry High School, she continued her education at Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Madison, WI graduating in1968. She worked at Kishwaukee ValleyMedical Group for over 35 years both as an office nurse and in managed care. Her greatest pride was running into former patients or having an insurance company say – "If Ida Mae says she will do it – I know it will get done." In December of 2004 she began working at Medcor in McHenry, as a phone triage nurse, until her retirement in May, 2018.
A talented piano player, she lent her talent to the UnitedMethodist Church of Ringwood for many years every Sunday and throughout the year on various committees. She accompanied endless school concerts and solo and ensemble competitions while her children attended Harrison School in Wonder Lake. If she wasn't using her talents playing the piano she was sewing, crocheting or knitting various projects that she couldn't wait to share with family and friends.
Ida Mae was an avid reader, lover of random trivia, and a Chicago Cubs fan through the good, bad and ugly. Countless hours were spent on bleachers watching baseball, softball and basketball. She enjoyed random road trips so she could drive her sports car and "accelerate into the curve." She was the friend you kept forever, and she would never forget a story or a fun time. It never mattered how much time had passed between visits, if you were a friend, you were a friend forever. She loved all things red, and the next time you wear the color red, or drink a Pina Colada, think of Ida Mae and smile.
Ida Mae is survived by her husband of 52 years, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her in-laws, Clarence & Katherine (Kay) Adams Sr.
Visitation will be held at Colonial Funeral Home on Monday, November 22 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Additional visitation will be from 9:00 am until the service at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 23rd, officiated by Pastor Lori Bee. Ida Mae will be laid to rest at Ringwood Cemetery.
