Born in Bluefield, John was the son of Dorcas R. Knuckles and the late David P. Johnston.
He was preceded in death by his father, David P. Johnston; those left to cherish his memory include his mother Dorcas Knuckles of Wytheville, VA and stepmom Pinky Johnston of Bluefield; three sons, Jushua Hager & Cameron Johnston both of Bluefield and Robbie Wray of Rustburg, VA. Daughter Telisha Johnston of Connelly Springs, NC; his siblings, David W. Johnston of Bluefield, James E. Johnston and wife Wanda of Bluefield, Melissa A. Lewis and husband Phillip of Timberlake, NC, Lori L. Murray of Rayland, OH, Crystal K. Mills and fiance Craig of Huntington, WV and Amanda F. Hinson and husband Ray of Taylorsville, NC; his grandchildren, Bella, Bradlee and Jase; his nieces and nephews Zachary Lewis, Tanner Lewis, Levi Lewis, Matthew Johnston, Veronica Hudson, Alyssa Mills, Gabe Mills, Abbie Kinser, Elijah Kinser and Eddie Pearcy.
A private ceremony will be held by the family for John.
