Elsie Joy was born in 1914 in Selkirk, Manitoba to Isaiah and Elsie (Kesselring) Rudy. Part of her schooling was in Jansen, Saskatchewan where her father was the Principal. She trained as a nurse at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She married Henry Bridgewater and lived in Bredenbury and Yorkton before finally settling in Calgary. They had four sons and one daughter. Joyce passed away in Calgary in 1987.
