Mary Frances Hovis Harmon, 91, passed away peacefully November 19, 2021 at Robin Johnson Hospice House, Dallas. She was born August 25, 1930 in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, a daughter of the late John and Novella Harmon Hovis.

Mary was a charter member of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. She most enjoyed her time spent with the students while working as cashier in the cafeteria of Gardner Park Elementary School. She also enjoyed watching game shows and the Guiding Light. She had a perennial sweet tooth - especially for chocolate - and quilted many a baby quilt. Mary also embarked on adventures with her partner in crime Edna.

Affectionately known as Granny, she was the honorary den mother over a neighborhood of feral children and co-conspirator in a number of hijinks that we will not divulge here. She will be greatly missed by her children Kenneth Harmon and his wife Kimberly of Gastonia, Karen Harmon of Charlotte; grandson Luke Harmon and sister Betty Lou Hovis of Mt. Holly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Bayne Mills Harmon; brother Eugene H. Hovis.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at Gaston Memorial Park with Rev. Jeff Lindsay officiating.
