He was a barber, wig maker, and the father of artist Joseph Mallord William Turner. They were very close and he lived with his son for the last thirty years of his life, aiding him as his studio assistant.

MANY YEARS AN INHABITANT
OF THIS PARISH, WHO DIED

TO HIS MEMORY AND OF HIS WIFE
MARY ANN.

HAS PLACED THIS TABLET,
AUGUST 1832.
