Jackie Lynn "Jack" Brown was born to William Franklin and Juanita Rose (Tarrant) Brown on October 30, 1941 in Grandfield, OK and departed this life in Grandfield on November 17, 2021 at the age of 80 years and 18 days.
Jack grew up at Grandfield, graduating from GHS in 1960. and said, "Every day was an adventure growing up in Grandfield." He married Joyce Ann Whittington on April 17, 1961 at Grandfield. Jack was working with his dad in the hay business early on but was soon called to preach in 1963. He pastored numerous churches throughout Texas and Oklahoma, all the while working various other jobs to help make ends meet. He was proud to have received a bachelor degree from Cameron University in 1984. He and Joyce returned to Grandfield in 2003 and he continued playing music with the Lone Star Troubadours. He soon took the pastorate at Randlett Baptist Church and was currently serving as pastor of Calvary Baptist.
Jack enjoyed building things with his hands, from hotrods to musical instruments.
Music was his passion and he was active with neighborhood bands as a kid. He had expertise with playing a variety of instruments but settled into playing the bass guitar and singing. Coming from a mix of rock-n-roll, country and western swing, Jack played with a diversity of bands through the years which included a Beatles clone band called "The Cobras." He decided western swing would be his thing and was eventually recognized for his contribution to the cause. In 2009 he became a "Hero of Western Music" as a 2009 inductee into the Cowtown Society of Western Music Hall of Fame in Mineral Wells, TX and that year was also inducted into the Western Swing Music Society of the Southwest Hall of Fame in Yukon, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Gay Mattingly.
