His funeral will be 2 PM on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel in Albemarle with Rev. Ed Lowder officiating. Burial will follow in the Mission Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until 1:30 prior to the service at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle.
Born November 20, 1938 in Stanly County, NC he was the son of the late James Alexander Howell and Nellie Cropsie Treece Howell.
He was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church and was a retired employee of Simpson Eggs in Monroe. He taught electronics at Central Cabarrus High School. He enjoyed flying planes and in his later years he enjoyed birdwatching and fixer-upper TV shows. He loved country music and enjoyed mowing his yard and plowing with his John Deere tractor.
Mr. Howell is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Crayton Howell. Other survivors include daughters Detria H. Turner (Ron) of Norwood and Ann Howell Mauldin (Danny) of Albemarle, a sister Catherine Taylor of SC, four grandchildren Anna Kaye Frick, Angela Casey Frick, Andrea Nicole Frick, and Lacey Melynn Turner, and one great-grandchild Rilynn Jayde Frick.
