Weaverville - Carroll James Ray, 86, of 244 Reems Creek Road, Weaverville, died Thursday, March 29, 2007.

Mr. Ray was born June 10, 1920, in Buncombe County. He retired from Drexel Furniture Company in 1980. Carroll was a musician who participated in Shindig-On-The-Green for a number of years. His parents, Eskie and Delpha Church Ray; as well as his brother, Bill Ray; and sisters, Vivian Hensley and Evelyn Ward, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Anna Hopson Ray; son, Larry, and wife, Ann, of Asheville; sisters, Bernice Stancombe, of Fruitland, Fla., and Joyce Roberts and husband, Clarence, of Weaverville; grandchildren, Lance Ray, Burton Ray and Jessica Ray; and three great-grandchildren.

The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, Asheville, with the Rev. Eugene Dodd officiating.
