Dr. Sylvia Evans had a love for education and enjoyed teaching and giving back to all those who came in contact with her. This love of teaching led her to spend 23 years of educating in the Washington, DC Public School System, 2 years at Sacred Heart Catholic Schools, 12 years at Prince George County Maryland Public School System, and 3 years at Bowie State University. Throughout her lifetime, she earned her Bachelor's Degree in English from the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore in 1973, then moved on to earn her Master's Degree from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1975, and finally her Doctorate in Administration, Instruction, & Curriculum from Penn State University in 1982. She also held professional memberships in organizations such as National Education Association, National Council of Negro Woman, Family Advocacy and Support, and many others.
Dr. Evans loved her family and is survived by her children: Tara Evans of Bridgeville, Michelle Tucker (Dennis) of Silver Springs, MD, Michael Evans of Proctorville OH, Lundon Evans of Bridgeville, DE, and Tiffany Evans of Bridgeville, DE; and her 2 grandchildren: Dennis Tucker Jr. and Jessa Evans. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she also had a loving heart and opened her home to several foster children throughout her lifetime.
Dr. Evans also enjoyed volunteering and offered her time to many organizations as well as being a part of the Red Hat Society.
Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 11:00 AM, at Lifeway Church of God, 7046 Seashore Highway, Bridgeville, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM.
