Obituary of Robert "Al" Albert Wood
Robert Albert "Al" Wood, age 78, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021, after a long illness. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Collier Butler Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services. Dr. Chris Terrell and Dr. Bill King will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier Butler Funeral Home will direct services. Al accepted Christ at a young age and attended White Springs Baptist Church all his life and served as a deacon for many years. He was Alabama State president of the Youth Temperance Council. He was a RA (Royal Ambassador) leader, taught Junior Boys, Men's Bible Class, and Young Married classes on several occasions. He served on several committees at his church, including Finance Committee, Personnel Committee, was the head of the Usher Committee, and served on Pastor Search Committees. Al was a Boy Scout leader for several years. He liked to hunt, owned a quarter horse, loved to play Rook with his friends, and was an avid Alabama football and Atlanta Braves fan. He spent 37 years working at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and had many good friends there when he retired. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, He is preceded in death by his first wife Jane; his son Robert ; his parents Elgert and Mary V. Wood; his grandparents and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Al is survived by his wife, Pamela Gail Wood; stepdaughter Brandi (Everett); step grandchildren Abby and Nick; brother Gene Wood; and nephew Eric Wood and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins. . Pallbearers will be Eric Wood, Bobby Brothers, Judson Hamilton, James New, Wayne Minton, Dale Adams, and Allen Hawkins. In Lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Helping Hands Food Ministry at White Springs Baptist Church.
