US Congressman. He attended Washington and Lee University, studied law, and became an attorney in 1880. Wilson was also active in several businesses, including textile mills, gold mines, an iron works, and farms. He served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1884 to 1886 and 1890 to 1892, and in the State Senate from 1892 to 1895. In 1895 Wilson was also a Delegate to the state constitutional convention. In 1894 he was the successful Democratic nominee for a seat in the US House of Representatives and served three terms, 1895 to 1901. He did not run for reelection in 1900, afterwards returning to his law practice and business interests in Spartanburg. In 1913 Wilson moved to Richmond, Virginia, where he practiced law until returning to Spartanburg in January, 1928.
