Phyllis"Jean: Byrd, 89, of Laurel, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
she was born August 12, 1932, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Howard and Jesse Pearl (Fisher)Huffman. On July 19, 1952, she married Richard E. Byrd, and he preceded her in death on December 8, 1995.
Jean is survived by her sister-in-law, Sharon Huffman of Whiteland; nieces, Terri Bowman and fiance', Jeff Lane, of Fountaintown, Cathy(Steve)Murray of Greenwood, Linda Huffman of Whiteland, Tammy Hurley of Laurel; nephew, Scott(Marcia)Huffman of Whiteland; and several great-nieces and great-nephews including Cheyenne(Michael) Hensley, of Brookville, who thought of her as a grandmother.
In addition to Richard, Jean was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harland Huffman; sister, Janice Fox; great-nephew, David W. Hurley; and great-great-nephews, Gavin Huffman and Chance Hurley.
Jean graduated in 1950 from Morristown High School.
She was a member of the Morristown Christian Church.
Jean retired from RCA, as a record press operator, with 38 1/2 years of service.
She and Richard operated a coffee shop in Nashville.
She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star.
She enjoyed watching IU Basketball, traveling(especially to California), spending time with her family and boating and residing at Cordry Lake. Jean loved listening to Elvis Presley sing.
Visitation will be from 10 to Noon, Friday, November 19, 2921, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown.
Funeral services will be at Noon on Friday, at the funeral home, with Brother Rob Edwards officiating.
Interment will be at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.
