James Anthony Cothren, 88, of the Spring Creek Community of Hot Springs, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.
James was born on October 23, 1933 in Paragould, Arkansas to his late parents, Griffin and Ina Cothren. He joined the US Navy, and, after three years of service, took a civilian position at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, which he retired from in 1991. A member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church, he loved God and his church, always helping in any way he could.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mike, granddaughter, Amanda Gayle Gilbert, and six sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Cothren; daughters, Debbie Johnson (Ricky), Pam Smith (Scott), Cindy Johnson (Junior), and Lavonne Mann (Avery); son, Allen Gilbert (Tamara); nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
A graveside service will begin at 2:00 pm at Zion Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery on Friday, November 19, 2021 with Pastor Frank Willett and Jimmy Moore officiating
