James Lowell Steele, 59, of Crawfordsville passed away Monday, Nov. 15, 2021, at Franciscan Health Crawfordsville.
He was the son of Robert Jack and MaryAnn Steele, which he now joined in heaven.
He was happily married to Leesa E. Steele on Nov. 29, 2014. He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Crawfordsville and an active member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 72 in Crawfordsville, as well as a former member of the Crawfordsville Moose Lodge. He worked as a senior loss control representative for Penn Millers and Grain Dealers Mutual Insurance, where he retired. He enjoyed being with friends and family, drinking beer, watching the Indianapolis Colts and Notre Dame, and playing chess.
James was survived by his wife, Leesa; two sons, Andy (Mary Conley) McVay and Nik (Harmony) Jensen, both of Crawfordsville; brother Robert J. Steele II of Huntsville, Alabama; two sisters, Marjorie (Max) Mitchell of Crawfordsville of Eva (Jerry) Silver of Williamsport; grandson Brantley; brother-in-law James Joseph II; six nephews, Jediah (Desire) Steele, JD Joseph, Jordan (Mirah) Silver, Jason (Ashley) Silver, Max Alexander Mitchell and Joseph Silver; three nieces, Heather (Daniel) Palmer, Veronica (Nick) Weston and Samantha (Cass) Alward; and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Jae Steele.
There will be a memorial service at Holy Cross Lutheran Church at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN, 38105; Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1414 Wabash Ave., Crawfordsville, IN 47933; or the Animal Welfare League, 1104 Big Four Arch Road, Crawfordsville, IN 47933.
