Dorothy R. Church
February 20, 1928 ~ November 15, 2021 (age 93)

Dorothy Rosemary Church, 93, formerly of Beverly Hills, Michigan, died November 15, 2021, at her home in Petoskey, Michigan.

Dorothy was born on February 20, 1928, in Cheboygan, Michigan, the daughter of John and Hazel (Duffiney) Church.

She attended the University of Detroit Mercy, where she obtained a master's degree in teaching. She worked for over 30 years at the Detroit Day School for the Deaf teaching sign language to the deaf and hard of hearing, primarily in kindergarten classes.

She retired from teaching in 1978 and moved further into Detroit's suburbs. Dorothy loved to travel, especially to the southwest corners of the United States. She immersed herself in her Native American heritage in New Mexico and Arizona. She also loved to watch cooking shows and create new recipes. She was fiercely independent, never married or had children of her own, and flourished that way. She was an avid glass collector and would spend countless hours tending to her flowerbeds.

She is survived by her sister, Kay Abramson; nieces and nephews, Rosemary (Brad) McGinn-Manning, Patrick (Kelly) McGinn, and Shawn (Vickie) McGinn; and several great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother John Church and niece, Kerry Ann McGinn and nephew Esteban Garcia.

Dorothy will be laid to rest at Eveline Township Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in the spring.

Stone Funeral Home, Inc. (Petoskey) is handling her arrangements.
