Mr. Joseph Lloyd Young, 86, of Summit, MS, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 15, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Lloyd was born in Lincoln County, MS and was the son of Doc Bates Young and Marie Porter Young. He was a member of Summit Church of Christ. He graduated from Independence High School in Lincoln County, MS. He began working in his early years at International Paper Company in Natchez, MS and then worked as a plumber at Covington's Hardware in Summit, MS. Later, he became an Executive Director at the MS Regional Housing Authority in McComb, MS and retired. He also retired as Director of Horace Holmes Building at SMCC and then his last job as Security at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb, MS.

He was well known for his time spent officiating high school sports (football, basketball and baseball). Many players love to share their stories (good or bad) but you could always see the respect players and coaches had for the officiating team of Windsor Gay and dad. His love for sports, good sportsmanship and teamwork, he passed on to his children. He was active in youth baseball at the complex in Summit (coaching, grilling the chicken all night for fundraisers, and working on ballfields). His example as a Husband, Father, Brother and Uncle, taught us how to work hard in whatever we do, provide for family, enjoy family quality time together, and to trust in God first and foremost.

He is preceded in death his parents; his wife Martha Young; one son, Joseph Owen Young; three brothers, Billy Lewis Young, Roger Young, and Mervin Glen Young, and one sister, Faye Silvio.

He is survived by three sons, Paul (Dianne) young of Lubbock, TX, Glen (Kathryn) Young of Moscow, TN, and Pete Young of Indianola, MS; two daughters, Angela (David) Barrington of Brandon, MS and Cathy (Edward) Dunn of Brandon, MS; two sisters, Sue McCall of Collins, MS, and Gail Rushing of Vidalia, LA; ten grandchildren, Steve Barrington, Joey (Candace) Young, Natalie (Troy) Powers, Parker Young, Hayley (Tanner) Garrett, Clayton (Kinslee) Carroll, Richard (Ashlee) Dunn, William (Holly) Dunn, Sloane (Nathaniel) Delk, and Bryan Young; five great-grandchildren, Carson Barrington, Alexis Young, Madison Young, Tobias Young, and Luca Rose Carroll, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Steve Barrington, Parker Young, Clayton Carroll, Richard Dunn, William Dunn, and Bryan Young. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joey Young, Carson Barrington, and Tobias Young.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021 from 10AM until time of service at 1PM at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit, MS with Bro Randy Springs officiating. A burial will follow in the Temple Hill Church of Christ Cemetery in Smithdale, MS.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his name to Summit Church of Christ, P.O. Box 1060, Summit, MS, 39666.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Compassus Hospice Care for their care and assistance during the last week. A special thank you to Shannon, DeeDee, Brenda, and Vicky.
