Ed S. Hill was born at Willow Grove, Tennessee, May 12, 1870. He fell asleep in the Lord at his home in Ft. Worth, Texas, December 19, 1952, at the age of 82 years, seven months and seven days. His funeral service was from the Southside Church of Christ building in Ft. Worth, and conducted by the writer and Robert C. Jones, with an unusually large crowd present. Interment: [Shannon] Rose Hill Cemetery, December 22, 1952. Brother Hill, with his father, settled near Van Alstyne, Texas, when he was a small boy. In 1895, at Collinsville, Texas, near Van Alstyne, he was married to Miss Pearl Bowling. To this union two sons were born, Houston and Georgie; also, a daughter, Edna, now Mrs, Julian Meeker. All live in Ft. Worth. Brother and Sister Hill have been very active members of the Southside church for perhaps more than forty years. They have been quite successful in business, and have done lots of good with their means. Many needy souls could rise up today and tell of the wonderful help they have enjoyed from Brother and Sister Hill. They were also liberal in their gifts to churches, orphan homes, and schools. Only a few days before his departing, they sent the Boles Home about $10,000.00. I was glad to be so closely associated with the Hill family for the past forty years in Ft. Worth. They have many, many friends, and we all will miss Brother Ed. But he fell asleep in Jesus and has the great promise of a glorious beyond.
