John Harold Copeland was born on July 19, 1930 in Bokoshe, Oklahoma to Katherine (Martin) Copeland and Lester Copeland and passed away peacefully on November 14, 2021 in Malvern, Arkansas. He was married to Janet Denise (Venable) Copeland on October 10, 1980 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. John was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Katherine Copeland; brothers, Donald Copeland, Gene Copeland, and Robert Copeland. He joined the United States Air Force at the age of 16 and was a retired veteran. After his military service, John began a career in law enforcement, serving as a Plumas County (California) deputy sheriff followed by 10 years as a state investigator for his home state of Oklahoma. He loved to fly fish for trout in the mountain streams of California. He was a published author of 2 books and numerous poems. John loved the skill of knife throwing, which he developed in Morocco during his service in the Air Force. He also loved older model Porsche cars and enjoyed traveling and adventure. John loved nothing more than his family, especially his kids and grandkids. Denise and John traveled the world during their 41 years of marriage and those years were the happiest of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Janet "Denise" Copeland; daughters, Carmalita Russo and husband, David, of Shingletown, California; Tami Copeland of Rohnert Park, California; son, John W. Copeland, of Long Beach, California; brother, Jim Copeland, of Mannford, Oklahoma; grandsons, Dustin Frenchick and Kyle Copeland, both of California; great grandson, John Alven Copeland, of California, numerous other relatives and loved ones.

Cause of death: Respiratory failure due to COPD
