Bill E. Hill, 78, of Flora, IL died at 7:00 PM Thursday, December 13, 2007 at Clay County Hospital in Flora.

He was born June 29, 1929 in Rend City, IL to Claude & Mary (Morgan) Hill. He married Doris Goddard on May 16, 1970 in Benton, IL.

He was the past owner/operator of Hill's Shell Station in Flora. Bill was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WW II, Korea & Vietnam and was also a former P.O.W. He earned several medals and commendations including World War II Victory Medal, Sharpshooter (Rifle) Badge, Expert (LMG) Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Medal and the Purple Heart.

His memberships include the following: Bloom Baptist Church, member & past post commander of Flora American Legion Post #14, past 24th District Commander of American Legion, past 5th Division Commander of American Legion, member of Flora VFW Post #3999, and past member of Flora Kiwanis & past District Lt. Governor of Kiwanis. Bill loved his family and had a passion for children.

He is survived by his wife: Doris Hill of Flora; children: Dan Hill of Taylorville, Claudia Jennings of Thompsonville, Carol Neal of Provincetown, MA; grandchildren: Ryan Hill of Mobile, AL and Tyler & Christina Jennings of Thompsonville; brother: Cordell Hill & wife Gretta of Marion; sister-in-law: Elmyra Hill of Issaquah, WA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son (Tom) and 4 brothers (Harry, Henry, Millard, Cavell).

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with military honors presented immediately following the service at the funeral home.

A graveside service will then be held at 2 PM Tuesday at Masonic & OddFellows Cemetery in Benton, IL. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Monday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to that of the donor's choice and may be received at the funeral home.
