Richard Snyder, age 81 of Early, IA, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, IA. Richard Francis Snyder was born on February 26, 1940, to parents Pernell and Marie (Bengford) Snyder at St. Anthony's Hospital in Carroll, IA. He was baptized at the St. Anthony's Chapel in Carroll on March 3, 1940, and later confirmed into the Catholic faith. Richard grew up in Early where he attended grade school at Sacred Heart Catholic School and later graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids, IA with the class of 1960.
On February 23, 1963, Richard was united in marriage to Pamela Jane Waggoner in Atlantic, IA. This union was blessed with five children: Donna, Amy, Michael, Scott, and Ryan. They later divorced. Richard worked as Journeyman Lineman for L.E. Meyers Line Contractors and several other line contractors up until his early retirement in November of 1998. After his retirement, Richard became a member of the city council in Early from 2005 to 2007. He then ran for Mayor and served as the Mayor of Early from 2008 to 2011. Along with his community involvement, Richard was a member of IBEW for 60 years. In his free time, Richard enjoyed cooking and entertaining his friends and family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Donna Snyder and partner Harley of Atlantic, IA, Amy Snyder of Winter Park, FL, Michael (Katrina) Snyder of Lake Stevens, WA, Scott (Tina) Snyder of Snohomish, WA, and Ryan (Jennifer) Snyder of Kenmore, WA; grandchildren: Cassandra Bair, Sarah Hahn, Madeline Bonholzer, Benjamin Snyder, Jamie Snyder, Tara Snyder, Zackary Snyder, Zachary Dolph, Kaitlyn Snyder, Taylor Snyder, and Joshua Alexander; great-grandchildren: Caden, Zara, Tucker, Kemper, Dallas, Hazen, Rowen, and Luxen; sister Rose (John) Pollpeter of Chicago, IL; sister-in-law Kathy Snyder of Early, IA; several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother Thomas Snyder, and grandson Jesse.
