Mike was a US Army Veteran, a retired coal miner with over 33 years at Island Creek, and a 1966 graduate of Cowen High School. He was a member of UMWA Local 1466 and attend the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Mike enjoyed travel, camping, fishing, and doing odd jobs. He loved horses and talking about the coal mines.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Connie Roberts Dempsey, daughter Tina Dempsey of Morgantown, and son Jeffery Dempsey of Camden on Gauley. Grandchildren, Samara, Evan, and Shawn Dempsey and great-grandson Freeman McCourt. Siblings: Lonnie (Diana) Dempsey of Craigsville, Charlotte Brooks of East Bank, Ann Trier of Akron, Ohio, and Grethel (John) McBirany of Atlanta, Ga. And special friends, his brothers-in-law, Jim Roberts, Larry Roberts, and Gary Roberts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lester Dempsey.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, November 14, 2021, at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen, WV, with Rev. Larry Lovely officiating. Burial, with full Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post 62, will follow at WV Memorial Gardens, Calvin, WV. Friends may call from 12:00 pm until the time of the service at the funeral home.
