Patricia Ann Ludwig Jenkins (Patsy) went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 24, 2021, just 13 days after her 87th birthday. Patsy donated her body to the willed body program at UT Southwestern.
Patsy was born October 11, 1934 in Dallas, Texas, to the late Robert and Florine Dyer Ludwig. She grew up in Austin, Texas and graduated from Austin High School. She attended the University of Texas and graduated in 1957 with. Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. While at UT, Patsy met the love of her life, Ray Jenkins, on a blind date. They were wed in June 22, 1957 and married for 61 years. Patsy taught Special Education in Spring Branch ISD while Ray attended Baylor School of Medicine. Upon the birth of their first child, Patsy "retired" from teaching to focus on raising her family.
Patsy was a servant leader: PTA Life Member, Arlington Medical Auxiliary, Arlington Swim Club, Arlington Delta Gamma Alumnae, Arlington Panhellenic, TCU DG Parents Club, Arlington Women's Club, and Rotary Club. Through Delta Gamma philanthropy "Service for Sight", Patsy found her true calling. She coordinated with Arlington ISD school nurses to vision screen students in Pre-K through ninth grades. For over twenty years, Patsy and her team of volunteers put in countless hours of service screening over 100,000 students. In 1999, Patsy received the Delta Gamma Cable Award which honors her many years of service to the philanthropy and devotion to the Fraternity. In 2012, she received the Delta Gamma Loyalty Award for her many hours of service given to enrich and support Delta Gamma. She received the Rotary Paul Harris Award for service as a non-Rotarian.
Patsy was a University of Texas Exes Life Member and loved everything Texas Longhorns. Patsy enjoyed volunteering as Mrs. Claus with her husband, Ray, at Webb Elementary school. She loved her Weimaraner, Dutch, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She continued to be active in Delta Gamma.
Patsy was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Jenkins in 2018. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Stroud and husband Chuck, son Rick Jenkins and wife Trisha, daughter Jana Thornhill and husband Derek, daughter Julie Allen and husband Jake, cousin Marion Rankin, cousin Bill Knox and wife Donna, eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Celebration of Life will be held on November 20, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1200 W. Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington, TX 76013.
