Mary Jane Short Hay, age 86, of St. Clair, formally of Sarasota, Florida, died November 11, 2021. She was born January 6, 1935 in Port Huron. She was the daughter of the late Russell and Rhea (Bradley) Trace. Mary Jane graduated from Port Huron High School and Port Huron Business College.
She was preceded in death by her husband James S. Hay, great granddaughters, Mia Jane and Juliet Rae. Also preceded in death by her five sisters, Dorothy O'Brien, Audrey Jefferson, Betty Alexander, Verna Miller and Margaret Reed.
Mary Jane is survived by her son Paul W. (Delia) Short of Marysville; three grandchildren, Paul W. (Monica) Short II of Port Huron, Russell A. (Stephanie) Short of East China and Delia Jane (Justin) Linnemann of Charleston, South Carolina and great grandchildren, Audrey Rae, Vivian Grace and Ella Jane of Port Huron, Roland Anthony and Avery Grace of East China and Jude Pablo and Jett Wesley of Charleston.
Mary Jane was a member of Encore of Sarasota, The Fine Arts Society of Sarasota, Past President of the Sarasota Garden Club Poinciana Circle and member of the Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow). She was also a member of Grace Episcopal Church of Port Huron, Michigan.
Mary Jane built Faith Medical Care Center of St. Clair, Michigan in 1968 and Yale Medical Care Center of Yale, Michigan in 1970. She was a licensed Administrator at both nursing home for many years until her retirement. She also built Mallards Landing, a retirement community in East China, Michigan in 1988. She was also the former owner of the Junction Buoy Restaurant and Seaway Mobile Home Ranch in Marysville, Michigan.
