Robert was born on July 8, 1923, in Crossett, AR, and passed away on November 12, 2021, in Farmerville, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Stanley Newman and Rose Williams Newman; and brothers, Ned Newman and Willard Newman.
Robert is survived by his wife of 71 years, Opal Honeycutt Newman; son, Eric Michael Newman and wife Maritza; grandchildren, Nicholas, Christina, and Natalia; brother, Ted F. Newman and sister-in-law Mildred Newman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was a veteran of the United States Navy serving on the USS Ranger and other vessels as a Radio Man, First Class. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Farmerville, LA, the National Geographic Society, the National Rifle Association, Telephone Pioneers of America, and the AARL (National Association for Amateur Radio). Robert retired as a supervisor/manager for Bell South in New Orleans for over 40 years. He and Opal later retired to Lake D'Arbonne in Farmerville.
