Melvin George Taylor, Jr. "Hoss", of Appleton City, Missouri, departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior on September 18, 2021 surrounded by his family.
Melvin was born on August 5, 1940 in Trenton, New Jersey to Melvin Taylor, Sr. and Amelia Allgor. Melvin grew up in Freeman, Missouri and graduated in 1958 top of his class at the old Freeman High School. He lettered in track and held the first state high school record for pole vaulting in Warrensburg, Missouri. Melvin was an avid painter all of his life. After retiring, he spent most of his time outdoors fishing, hunting or golfing. He also enjoyed bowling on the league in El Dorado Springs, Missouri where he held high scores. On March 18, 2018 he married Lou Ann and they spent the last three years enjoying their time together camping, fishing, playing jam sessions at Chopper Stoppers and dancing the night away. Many times you could also find him sitting at the kitchen table playing what he lovingly called, "Dice" and cheating to win while drinking his coffee. If the Chiefs game was on you could guarantee as one of the teams most avid fans, he was sitting right there watching the game, cheering them on loudly. Melvin loved all of his family and really enjoyed spending time with them, especially his children and grandchildren. Melvin never met a stranger and many, many friends were made over the years and always willing to help anybody who had a need.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; step-father George "Tuck" Smith; great-grandson Caysin Rainforth; sisters, Lillian Porter and Linda Chamness; an infant brother Roy Lee Smith; infant nephew Zachary Taylor; nephews David Chamness and Greg Taylor and a very special son-in-law Ray Cummings.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife, Lou Ann Taylor, of the home; children: Ruby Cummings (fiancé Virgil), Cleatis Taylor, Nathan Taylor (Marsha), Shawna Engeman (Dennis), Terra Reynolds (Brian), Delena Grant (Michael), Larry Taylor (Evie), Kim Jones (Rick), Anna Taylor (fiancé Chris); siblings: Amelia Masters, Nancy Franklin, Lawrence Taylor (Dolores), Mary Flanagan, Marie Neece, Earl Wayne Smith, Aunt Ruth Smith; 27 grandkids; 40 great-grandkids and 11 great-great-grandkids; Also very special friends Terry, Donna and Willie; numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
