Obituary of Bennie Erwin Phillips

Bennie Erwin Phillips, age 78, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021. A visitation for the family and friends of Bennie will be held Friday, November 12, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907, followed by a celebration of Bennie's life at 3:00 PM.

Bennie was born February 14, 1943, in Columbus, Georgia; the son of Bennie Erwin Phillips Sr. and Nona Copeland. He graduated from Jordan High School and served in the U. S. Navy from 1960 - 1964. Bennie married Cathy Willis on April 15, 1968 at the 0pelika Courthouse, his brother David and his wife Linda were with them there for their special day, they've been married for 53 years. Bennie was a member of St. Luke United Methodist for many years. He was a bakery supervisor at Dolly Madison until his retirement. Bennie enjoyed many things such as being retired, taking day trips, and watching movies, especially romantic comedies with his wife, going on cruises and playing golf. Bennie was a skilled craftsman who enjoyed wood working. He has made numerous heirlooms for his family and several musical instruments. He is one of those guys that could do anything and repair anything, skills he also shared with others. Bennie was very loving and treated everyone with extreme kindness. His family meant the world to him, being a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather were the most important relationships and favorite names to be called. Time spent with family was always time well spent, especially time with his grandchildren and great granddaughter.

Bennie is preceded in death by: his parents, Erwin and Nona Phillips; his brothers, EC, Stanley, Terry, Harvey and Jerry Phillips; his sisters, June Carter, Eleanor Carden, and Dorothy Kerbs.

Survivors include: his wife, Cathy; daughters, Michele, Amy (Greg) Way, Granddaughter Roxanne Laney; grandson, Bradley (Chrissy) Laney; great granddaughter, Violet Laney; brothers, David (Linda) Phillips, Dana (Sara) Phillips; sisters, Sandy (Bill) Richardson, Pat (Terry) Powell; and many nieces and nephews.
