COLUMBIA- A graveside service for Jessie A. Hardy, 81, will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021 in Sanders Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. P.L. Griffin will officiate. A public viewing will be held Friday, November 19, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home.

Ms. Hardy passed away November 7, 2021. Born in Camden, she was a daughter of the late Deacon Walter Allen, Sr. and Rev. TD Allen. Ms. Hardy graduated from Jackson High School in Camden, S.C. in 1960 and moved to Paterson, N.J. from 1963-1966 she attended the Sherwood School of Business and worked full time as a tele typist at the Garden State Credit Bureau in Clifton, N.J. In 1959 she met Burnell Hardy, Jr. in Camden, S.C. and they met again in Paterson, N.J. where they spent 13 years together and got married in February of 1972. Burnell passed away in on May 15, 1972.

In 1973 Jessie moved back to Camden, S.C. where she worked as a typist for Farmer's Home Administration before going to ATEC School to brush up on her clerical skills. She worked at the Holiday Inn as a Housekeeper for a short time before going to ATEC. She worked with Lugoff Sportswear as a presser and a seam buster for 5 years and then went back to ATEC to get her CAN certificate in the late 80's. She worked with City Laundry as a presser for a year and then began working with Springdale Nursing Home from 1992-1997, earning employee of the month in 1995. Jessie worked 6 years as a patient sitter for such clients as Violet Thomas, Ada Jones and Ida Langford to name a few. Her last job was a live-in care giver and part-time work with Mrs. Summers in Spring Hill of Camden, S.C. in the late 90's to 2003.

Jessie was a member of Sanders Creek Baptist Church where she served as an usher. She studied algebra, history, medical coding and billing, typing and math and earned numerous awards, certificates and scholastic achievements from her line of work and school. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, theater art and church activities. She went to live at Life Care Nursing Home in Late August of 2021 and passed away at Richland Memorial Hospital in Nov. of 2021.

Surviving are her children, Shawn Hardy and David Burnell Hardy; grandchildren, Janan Rana Peri Douglass, Shamar Cowan, Mosiah Nelson, Karima Nelson, Ayanna Nelson, Adrian Nelson; siblings, Walter Allen, Jr., Hattie A. Lewis, Edward Allen, Eva B. Allen, Jimmie Allen; a sister-in-law, Rosa Allen; nieces, Diane Stancil, Yvette Jackson, Elaine Allen, Adrienne Allen-Red, Greta Thomas, Placidia Jackson, Sabrina Allen, Melissa Allen, Elisheba Allen; nephews, Jimmie Lee Allen, Jr., Walter Allen, Jr., Greg Allen, Carl Lewis, Jr., Ronald Allen, Reginald Allen, Bryant Allen, Omar Allen, Ahmed Allen, Yusef, Duane Lewis, Andre Allen; and numerous relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burnell Hardy, Jr.; siblings, Robert Allen, David Allen, Bill Allen, Marie A. Pugh, Carolyn Allen; and a niece, Marie Allen.
