Ruth Oma Wachtel, age 90, passed away peacefully, on March 6, 2017, at Oak Crossing Nursing Home, in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Ruth was born on January 12, 1927, and raised in Ada, MN., by her parents, August and May Scherf.
She is survived by her sister, Betty Gysland of Ada; sons: James (Nora) Bergin of Hopkins, MN., and Gerald (JoAnn) Bergin of Lake Vermilion, MN.; daughters: Katherine (Jerry) Heitman of Waubun, MN., and Pennie (Edger) Lee of Milaca, MN.; 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Ruth loved spending time with family and friends, along with the great outdoors, including fishing, snowmobiling & four-wheeling. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and playing cards. Ruth spent her life in caring for others. Her home was always open to anyone wanting to visit over hot coffee, homemade cookies and a game of pinochle.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 pm., on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at the Circles of Faith United Church of Christ, in Waubun, with a luncheon to follow. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, at the church. The family prefers that memorials be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
