Gail Louis Harris, 77, Ness City, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at Ness County Hospital, Ness City. He was born Oct. 6, 1940, in Larned to Clifford and Helen (Andersen) Harris.
He married Kaye Stieben on Jan. 26, 1963, in Bazine. They worked and raised their family in the Ransom area and moved to Ness City after retirement. He was a retired farmer and rancher and school bus driver.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Ness City. He was previously a Ransom USD 302 Board of Education member and Ransom Junior Farmers 4-H Club Community leader. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served as a Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper (1965 -1969).
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jay Harris and wife, Kris, Hays; two daughters, Kimberly Borger and husband, Mitch, Ness City, and Kristin Pendergraft, Spring Hill, Tenn.; a brother, Arlyn Harris and wife, Nancy, Jenks, Okla.; two sisters, Bertha Shannon, Liberty, Mo., and Carol Halsey and husband, Larry, Loveland, Colo.; five grandchildren, Hailey Hawkinson and husband, Dal, James Pendergraft, Kyle Harris, Jordan Pendergraft and Kade Harris; and three great-grandchildren, Paizley and Cruze Hawkinson, and Kennedy Pendergraft.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Don, Merle and Carl Harris.
Service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Ness City and burial in Ransom Cemetery. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, both at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, Ness City.
