George was a WWII Marine Corp veteran, where he was a radio operator and Corporal. He graduated from UNC, Chapel Hill, where he attended with the G.I. Bill. He worked with his brother Joe, at Williamson's Paint Store for many years, lastly in Landrum. He was an avid gardener and made the best tomato sandwich. George followed the Tar Heels in basketball, realizing there was no hope for the football team. George was an active church member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, and was devoted to his family, especially his granddaughter Caroline.
George is survived by two daughters, Pamela Ellis (Rev. Robert) and Gail Bankhead (John), and a granddaughter, Caroline Johnson Hall (Matthew). He was predeceased by brothers, Joe Williamson, Jack Williamson (Marge), Carl Williamson (Dottie), Alva Williamson, Jim Williamson (Dot), and Charles Williamson (Mary); and a sister, Marion Williamson.
A graveside service will be private and a memorial service will be at Presbyterian Community of South Carolina, Clinton, SC at a later date.
