Shirley attended public school at Booker T. High in Baltimore, MD. She worked at Santa Maria in Maryland. Later she moved to Robersonville, NC in 1997. Shirley worked at Perdue Farms and at RC Restaurant, Williamston, NC until her health declined. Shirley accepted Christ later in life. She loved to sing and dance. The children in her neighborhood called her the "snack lady".
Shirley was preceded in death by, Julius Ray Saunders and Lois Ampley. Shirley leaves to cherish her memories her two sons, Jamie Carter and Richard Carter of the home; three grandchildren, Xavier, Aulani, and Jamie Jr; five sisters and four brothers; Jimmy Saunders (Verna) of Greenville, NC, Betty Harrington, James "Champ" Saunders, Patricia Gallman, Larry Ampley (Wileen) all of Robersonville, NC, Richard "Ricky" Saunders of Baltimore, MD, Joyce Wright of Woodbridge, VA; Barbara Faye Bristol of Philadelphia, PA; Linda Smallwood of Connecticut; very special friend, Jeffrey Cooper; a host of nieces, nephews, otherrelatives and friends.
