A Henderson County native, Doris graduated from Brevard College in 1962. She worked for the Times-News until accepting a position with the North Carolina Department of Human Resources In Raleigh. She continued to work for the State in various positions until her retirement in 2003 at which time she was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. The highest award for state service granted by the Office of the Governor, it is awarded to persons who have made significant contributions to the state and their communities through their exemplary service and exceptional accomplishments.
Doris loved to cook and delighted many a friend and coworker with her apple desserts. Her kind and giving nature led her to continually share all she had assisting friends and family during times of need.
A service will be held at 4:00 PM on November 16th, 2021 at the Tracy Grove Baptist Church Chapel. Friends and family will be invited to share memories of Doris during the service.
