Lonnie Joe McDonald, 62, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021, in Schertz, Texas, peacefully at home with his loving wife Shelly by his side after a long battle with cancer.

He was born on August 29, 1959, in Unionville, Missouri, to Albert and Marcella (Shaver) McDonald. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.

He graduated from Green City High School in 1977. He attended Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri, and later finished his criminal justice degree at Illinois Community College in Peoria, Illinois. He served in the US Air Force, active duty and later reserves. He was also a truck driver for many years.

He married Linda Sherman in 1983 and they divorced. He then married Teresa Dreier in 1999 and they divorced. He then married Shelly Hansen in 2011.

Surviving are his wife Shelly McDonald, his five children: Rachael McDonald of Marquette Heights, IL, Zechariah (Sarah) McDonald of Auburn, IN, and Jozsua, Chance and Chandler McDonald, all of Pekin, IL, his six grandchildren: Keegan, Oliver and Caroline Gokboga, Aden McDonald, and Arya and Leon McDonald, and his siblings Larry (Clara Mae) McDonald of Green City, MO, James Russell (Ann) McDonald of Shawnee, OK, Robert (Pam) McDonald of Novinger, MO, and Linda (James David) McFarland of Novinger, MO.

When he was growing up, he had a pet chicken named Gracie that would ride around on his shoulder. He loved that chicken and all his other pets over the years. He enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, and spending time outdoors.

A memorial will be placed in honor of Lonnie Joe at Burnett Cemetery in Pennville, MO, near his parents. There will be no services.
