Don was born in East Liverpool, Ohio on November 20, 1932 a son of the late Joseph A. and Mabel Hughes. Don was a graduate of East Liverpool High School class of 1951. He was an Army veteran proudly serving during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955 with the 4th Armored Division. Don was an avid golfer, bowler and puzzle master. He loved dogs, horses and western movies.
Preceding Don in death were his brother Buddy Hughes and two sisters Mildred and Della Hughes.
Left to cherish his memory are two sons Christopher Hughes and his wife Mary of Denham Springs, LA and Kevin Hughes and his wife Kathy of East Liverpool; five grandchildren Natalie Moore and her husband Quinn of Denham Springs, LA, Joshawa Hughes of Denham Springs, LA, Robert Hughes of Denham Springs, LA, Hannah Hughes of East Liverpool and Holly Hughes of East Liverpool and many friends from the Stone Pear Pavilion that was considered his extended family.
Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Monday where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Pastor Jeff Smith of Grace City Church will conduct a service on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial at Columbiana County Memorial Park where Tri State Veterans Burial Group will provide military honors.
