Melvin, known by his family as "Tiger," graduated in 1991, from Northeast High School in Meridian, MS, where he was a member of the football and baseball teams. He attended Meridian Community College and Mississippi State University, where he studied Mechanical Engineering. He dedicated twenty-one (21) years to Kellogg's as a Production Operator and held the Office of Chief Steward of Local Union 252G. He was a strong advocate for the union and served as the assistant to the local president. He was respected and valued by his peers and co-workers.
Melvin was an avid reader and loved playing golf. He was affectionately known as "Tiger Woodrow." He enjoyed vacationing and spending quality time with his family and close friends. While quiet in spirit, he always made special gestures to express his unconditional love for God, his family, and close friends.
Melvin was united in holy matrimony to Jana Richie on May 27, 2000, in Atlanta, GA. To this union two beautiful daughters were born. Melvin was a loving and devoted father to his three children Justin, Jada, and Amaya Young. He was the proud grandfather of his granddaughter, Jiselle Young.
Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Young, Sr., paternal and maternal grandparents.
Melvin leaves to cherish his memories; his loving and devoted wife, Jana Young, of 21 years, his son Justin Young of Atlanta, GA; two daughters Jada Young and Amaya Young of Olive Branch, MS; granddaughter Jiselle Young of Atlanta, GA; his mother Betty Young-Cryer, step-father, Owen Cryer; three siblings: Tory Young of Miami FL; Tiana Cryer of Meridian, MS and Andre' Cryer of Phoenix, AZ; a loving mother-in-Law, Alice Richie of Newnan, GA, two brothers-in-law, Brian Richie of Minneapolis, MN and Brad Richie (DeAnn) a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
