Carolyn Joy McFarland (Hilliard), 66, of Lincoln, NE, passed away October 28, 2021, at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln. She was born May 21, 1955, to Corliss and Betty Baker Hilliard in Northeast Iowa. She attended Hawkeye Public and Helen Hyatt Elementary Schools, Platte Valley Academy in Shelton, NE, and graduated in 1976 from Union College in Lincoln, NE, with a degree in accounting.
Joy had a lifelong career in the insurance field beginning as a rater and progressing to be a CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter). Joy was a member of the College View Seventh-day Adventist Church.
She married Walter Gordon Wilder on May 10, 1976, at Northside SDA Church in Lincoln, NE. Their son, Alan Gordon Wilder, was born on December 27, 1975. Joy and Walter adopted him in 1990. Walter died in 2009 after a battle with colon cancer. Joy married William Arthur McFarland on April 17, 2011.
Joy experienced renal failure several years ago and began dialysis treatment. She contracted Covid 19 recently which led to her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Corliss and Betty Hilliard; her first husband, Walter Gordon Wilder; and her sister, Bonita June Aranda.
Survivors include her husband, William Arthur McFarland; son, Alan Gordon Wilder (Lisa); sister, Beverly Ann Davis (Lyle); brother, Donald Wayne Hilliard (Rosie); two grandchildren, Stella Wilder and Logan Wilder, and a niece and several nephews.
Memorial services will be held on November 14 at 11:00 a.m. at College View Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Heritage Room on the lower level, 4801 Prescott Ave., Lincoln, NE, with Pastor Lyle Davis officiating.
Burial will be at College View Cemetery following the service.
