Mary Lou and her older sister Margaret were raised among books in a bright structured home by two loving parents proud of their German heritage and educated backgrounds.
She graduated from Omaha North High School in 1945 and enrolled at her dad's alma mater, University of Wisconsin-Madison, from which she received her BA in 1949. At the UW she met her future husband, Joseph R. Brady. Married in Omaha in 1949, they settled in Madison where they raised four children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joe; and granddaughter Christine Powell.
